16 Days of Activism : Human chain held in Demra

A human chain was held in front of Konapara, Demra, New Market on December 5, 2021 at 4 pm on the occasion 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence 2021. The event was organized in collaboration with Global Affairs Canada and Oxfam in Bangladesh.

Abul Hossain, Acting Coordinator of the Domestic Workers Rights and Network (DWRN), spoke on the occasion. He said that despite the natural calamities, despite the storms and rains, they have come forward to speak for their rights. “Housemaids are not slaves, they are just like our family members,” she said. Without them, not a day goes by. Therefore, domestic workers must be vocal in realizing their demands, and everyone must come forward to implement the policies announced by the government. He further said that domestic workers also have a responsibility, they also need to be active, there should be unity, every domestic worker should know about their rights and he should be vocal in realizing it. He appealed to all present to treat the domestic workers humanely.

Local leaders, domestic workers and network leaders spoke on the human chain. Senior Advocacy Officer Chowdhury Borhan Uddin and Project Assistant Khaled Bhuiyan were present on behalf of Suniti Project.
