A 2-day long training programme for the members of Green Social Network on environmental and social standards was organized in Tongi at a local community centre on February 23-24, 2025 by Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies-BILS with the support of The Canada Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI) aimed at building capacity for the members in the project location. On the 1st day of the training programme, a total of 37 participants were present among whom17 were women and 20 were men, while on the 2nd day 33 were present including 16 women and 17 men.
Garment Workers-Employees Unity Council (G-SKOP) Coordinator Naimul Ahsan Jewele chaired the inaugural session of the training, while CFLI) Coordinator Sameya Karim, BILS Executive Council Member Nasrin Akter Dina, Director Nazma Yesmin, Senior Trainer A B M Sajjad Hossain, Project Coordinator Md. Yousuf Al-Mamun, Programme Officer Jhakia Neelima, Monnu Textile Mill High School Teacher Md. Zakaria and Cultural Activist Shekanul Islam Shahi addressed among others.
Through a number of group works, brainstorming and role playing the network members developed an Action Plan that covered relevant issues like environmental and Climate Change impact, chemical use and waste Management, pollution reduction, national and international Standards and laws, ways of elimination of the harmful effects of the environment, Identifying important actions and potential challenges, advocacy and campaign methods.
It is hoped that through this training, the new members of the Green Social Network will be capacitated on the enviro nmental and social issues caused by the garment industry.
