Policy making discussion on linking ILO declarations on COVID-19 pandemic and workers rights in Bangladesh

NCCWE, ILO and BILS jointly organised a day long policy making discussion titled “Linking UN/ILO declarations amid COVID-19 pandemic to national campaign for workers’ rights: A policy discussion for trade unions in Bangladesh” on September 12, 2020 at Asia Hotel and Resorts, Dhaka.

Main objectives of the meeting were to share the pandemic situation in the country and around the world; to discuss UN and Government policy guidelines and ILO framework; to discuss WHO guidelines; to prepare a position statement and policy argument for the trade union movement for policy discussion and social dialogue.

NCCWE and Jatiya Sramik League President Fazlul Haque Montu Chaired the meeting, while NCCWE member secretary Naimul Ahsan Jewel acted as a moderator.  Professor of Economics of the Department of Development Studies at the University of Dhaka Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, OHS Consultants Masum Ul Alam and Dr. Salamat Khandoker and Rajshahi University Professor Dr. Zakir Hossain were present as the facilitators. Jatiya Sramik Jote President Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Bangladesh Trade Union Sangha General Secretary Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam, Socialist Labour Front President Razekuzzaman Ratan, Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal President Anwar Hossain, Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik Federation President Shamim Ara, Bangladesh Trade Union Center President Shahidullah Chowdhury, Workers Specialist of Decent Work Technical Team at ILO South Asia Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmmed, Bangladesh Labour Federation President Shah Mohd. Abu Zafar and Jatiya Sramik Federation President Quamrul Ahsan were present at the meeting.
