Occupational Health and Safety Fair-2020 held

BILS, under its’ DGB-BW project organised a Two days Occupational Health and Safety Fair-2020 on December 20-21, 2020 at the premises of J M Sen Hall, Chattogram.

BILS Secretary General and Executive Director Nazrul Islam Khan Inaugurated the fair. DGB-BW Asian region Consultant Dr. Indira Gartenbarg, BILS LRSC Chairman A M Nazimuddin, TUC Chattogram District President Tapan Datta, JSL Leader Shafi Bangali also spoke during this inaugural session.

Chattogram City Corporation Administrator Md. Khorshed Alam Sujon was present as chief guest in the concluding session. In his speech said, present government of Bangladesh is working hard to protect workers’ rights. He said we are committed to uphold TU rights, implement labour law in workplaces and guarantee the overall safety of the workers. He thanked BILS and Chattogram-based leadership of different trade unions for successfully organizing the Occupational Health & Safety Fair at Chattogram on regular basis.

In his inaugural speech BILS Secretary General and Executive Director Nazrul Islam Khan said, workers, in changing scenario, are in numerous vulnerabilities. Accidents and injuries are very rampant in the most informal workplaces. We all have to play a responsible role in terms of ensuring workers’ rights and safety-he added.

Dr. Indira Gartenbarg thanked all for organising the event and hoped that the stakeholders will play proper role in case of ensuring workers occupational safety.

The events of the 2-days Occupational Health and Safety Fair-2020 included issue-based separate discussions, experience sharing of the injured workers, display of fire extinguishing at workplace by the Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defense Authority, display of safety equipment, health and safety related publications of participating organisations and trade union bodies in the fair.
