At the press conference, BILS Secretary and Jatiya Sramik League Central Committee Joint-Secretary Md. Safar Ali read out the statement. He said that Chittagong is business hub, therefore, thousands of workers are working here. To ensure workers right and to uphold their trade union rights, BILS-DGB has taken the 3 years ‘BILS-DGB Project’. Under this project a ‘Labor Resource and Support Center’ was set up in Chittagong to provide different facilities for the workers.
In the press conference, the labour leader said that from the project, 3000 workers and their families will get information about the labour rights and safety issues, while both the national and regional level TU leadership will be benefited to access information and resources on labour and social issues. They will also will receive capacity building training, paralegal training and internship facilities, while rights reporters will receive capacity building training on labour issues, youth organizers will be trained on Labour Law, negotiations and management of TU, victims will get legal supports, university graduates will get internship facilities on labour issues and workers including family members will receive medical supports.
BILS Secretary and Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal (Chittagong) President A M Nazim Uddin, Trade Union Kendra Chittagong President Tapan Dutta, BFTUC Joint Secretary Rizwanur Rahman Khan, BILS Chittagong Programme Coordinator Pahari Bhattacharjee and BILS-DGB project information officer Ferdous Ara were also present in the press conference.
