The camp was attended by nearly 100 local trade union leaders and activists. An awareness rising discussion meeting was held on this occasion. The discussion meeting was presided over by local trade union leader and BJSF Chattogram president Zaheduddin Shahin. BILS-LRSC Coordintion Committee Chairman A M Nazimuddin was the chief guest in the meeting. BILS-LRSC senior officer Pahari Bhattacharjee and Rizwanur Rahman Khan were enlisted discussants. Chattogram TUC joint-secretary Iftekhar Kamal Khan, local TU leaders Ali Ashraf and Didarul Alam of TUC, Zabed Alom and Nurul Kabir Swapan of JSL, Zebunnahar Zuli of BLF also spoke on the occasion.
The meeting expressed deep concern over the unemployment of informal sector workers, ongoing illegal lay-off and forced termination of workers in printing & electronic media, RMG and other sectors, social insecurity of day laborers, construction workers, hotel and health workers beside less payment by the employers amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Later, 1000 BILS publications like quarterly bulletin, leaflets, stickers on workers’ rights issues, publication on Covid-19 and workers’ health and safety situation, publication on Chattogram-based ongoing BILS-DGB-BW activities were distributed among those who attended the awareness rising camp.
