We are pleased to inform you that, at the meeting of the BILS Executive Council held on August 18, 2026, it was unanimously decided to rename the BILS Library and Documentation Centre as the “Freedom Fighter Nazrul Islam Khan Library and BILS Documentation Centre” in honor of our respected leader, founder, and Secretary General of BILS, Nazrul Islam Khan.

From the very beginning, Mr. Nazrul Islam Khan—founder of BILS and our beloved leader—has attached the highest priority to establishing a rich library and publishing a regular journal within BILS to build it as a knowledge-based, unified platform for the labour movement. He has always envisioned and actively contributed to fostering a constructive direction for the labour movement, as well as developing knowledgeable and wise leadership through training, information sharing, and intellectual engagement. BILS has taken this decision in honour of his pivotal role in positioning Bangladesh’s labour movement at a place of dignity nationally and internationally, and above all, his dedication to founding a well-equipped library aimed at building a strong, knowledge-based labour movement.

Numerous researchers from home and abroad, students and teachers, PhD scholars, and researchers from international universities regularly utilize the BILS library to conduct rich research work on labour policy and related issues. Additionally, university interns frequently use this library, and trade union leaders and activists rely on the library and its journal as key reference resources. Beyond recognizing Nazrul Islam Khan’s lifelong dedication and contributions, this renaming will further accelerate our efforts to expand the library’s resources and inspire future generations to build similar institutions.
