A 2-day long training programme for the 2^nd batch of Green Social Network on environmental and social standards was started in Tongi at Montage Polytechnic Institute on July 17, 2025 by Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies-BILS with the support of The Canada Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI) aimed at building capacity for the members in the project location. On the 1^st day of the training programme, a total of 30 participants were present among whom 16 were women and 14 were men.

BILS Advisory Council Member Naimul Ahsan Jewel chaired the inaugural session of the training, while the Political Counselor of Canadian High Commission in Bangladesh Marcus Davies addressed the session as a guest of honor.  BILS Executive Council Secretary as well as the Member of the Labour Reform Commission of Bangladesh Shakil Akhter Chowdhury delivered welcome address. BILS Deputy Director & Project Coordinator Md. Yousuf Al-Mamun briefed the participants about the project. Among others, Canadian Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI) Coordinator Sameya Karim, Trainer Ahsan Habib Bulbul, Project Officer Jhakia Begum Neelima and Team leaders of 1^st traing batch were present at the session.

Marcus Davies hoped that the trainees, by utilizing the knowledge and skills acquired through the training from the current project, would be able to sensitize the workers of the garment factories and community members to present their demands to the government, local governments, and owners to ensure their social and environmental standards.

Through a number of group-works, brainstorming and role playing the network members developed an Action Plan that covered relevant issues like environmental and Climate Change impact, chemical use and waste Management, pollution reduction, national and international Standards and laws, ways of elimination of the harmful effects of the environment, Identifying important actions and potential challenges, advocacy and campaign methods.

It is hoped that through this training, the new members of the Green Social Network will be capacitated on the environmental and social issues caused by the garment industry.
