BILS, under DGB-BW project organised an awareness raising camp on October 9, 2020 at Halishahar B-Block under Sagorika Industrial Area, Chattogram.
The camp was attended by nearly 100 local trade union leaders and activists. An awareness raising discussion meeting was held on this occasion. The discussion meeting was presided over by local trade union leader and TUC organiser as well as INSAB (A Construction Sector TU organization of TUC) Halishahar area President Kazi Iskandar Mirza. BILS-LRSC Coordination Committee member & TUC Chattogram President Tapan Datta was chief guest in the event while BILS-LRSC Coordintion Committee Chairman A M Nazimuddin was the special guest. BILS-LRSC senior officer Pahari Bhattacharjee and Rizwanur Rahman Khan was enlisted discussants. Local TU leaders Didarul Alam, Md. Hanif of TUC, Md. Altaf Hossain, Hasibur Rahman Biplob and Md. Rubel Hossain of BJSD spoke on the occasion. It is to be mentioned that, most participants were construction sector workers.
The meeting expressed deep concern over the unemployment of informal sector workers, ongoing illegal lay-off and forced termination of workers in printing & electronic media, RMG and other sectors, social insecurity of day laborers, construction workers, hotel and health workers beside less payment by the employers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
