Advocacy meeting held with BGMEA Officials at Chattogram

BILS, under the DGB-BW project organised a advocacy meeting with the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) officials on November 15, 2020 at the seminar hall of Ctattogram BGMEA Office.

The meeting was presided over by Director of Ctg. BGMEA Md. Atik, On behalf of BGMEA first Vice-President Mr. A M Chowdhury Selim, Khandoker Belaet Hossain, Aziz Chowdhury, Saifullah Monsur, Md.Taslim, Abser Hossain Wadud Chowdhury, M Ehsanul Huq were present.

The meeting was addressed among others by BILS Centre Coordination Committee and BJSD Chattogram District Committee president A M Nazimuddin, MemberSecretary of the BILS-LRSC Coordination Committee and Chattogram Labour court member Md. Safar Ali, Tapan Datta, senior officer of BILS Pahari Bhattacharjee, Rizwanur Rahman Khan and Assistant Program officer Fazlul Kabir Mintu.

The meeting discussed that, in most of the non-compliance factories, RMG workers are being deprived of legal benefits including payment of their monthly wages, overtime, leisure, maternity leave, encasement of earn leave, bonus and even government-declared minimum wages according to labour law.

The meeting urged all to following the existing labour law and safety procedures in case of operating any RMG factory for the well-being of both workers and employers.
